KALATAS: Philippine Literature, Culture, & Ideas

The official publication of the Unyon ng mga Manunulat sa Pilipinas (UMPIL), the largest organization of Filipino writers in the country founded in 1974.

CCP launches 38th literary journal on 45th year

ani38Seventy-one writers who authored a total of 147 literary works are featured in the 38th issue of the official literary journal of the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP). Ani 38 themed “The Human Body/Ang Katawan” covering the period of 2013 to 2014 will be launched on October 15, 2014 at the CCP Promenade at five in the afternoon. The CCP Intertextual Division, formerly the Literary Arts Division, produced Ani 38 in time for the 45th anniversary of the Center, which will officially start in September.
Intertextual Division head and Ani editor-in-chief Herminio S. Beltran, Jr. explained that the “concrete” theme of Ani 38 resulted from the common comment of writers who composed the Ani 37 issue. They found the latter’s theme of “Cleansing and Renewal” as abstract.
“Undoubtedly concrete as it is, it may not be all that new however as a topic in creative writing,” said Beltran. He added, “We therefore kept it open to related sub-topics, such as the stages of the human body from birth to death; the situations and conditions that affect it, namely, illnesses and wellness; bodily functions, and activities the body is capable of – all of which deal with human experiences that make for a wealth of materials for the creation of narratives and metaphors.”
The 71 authors who submitted works in Filipino, Hiligaynon, Ilokano, Ilokano-Baguio, Akeanon, Bikol, Pangasinan, English, and Spanish in Ani 38: The Human Body/Ang Katawan are as follows: E. May sangka baye nga namatayan it unga. Indi na ra mabaton. Kada tawo nga masubeang nana hay ginapangayuan na it bulig ag ginatangisan.

"May una kinyo nga makapabanhaw it sangka unga? Buligi man ninyo ako!"

Haeos nagkaumangon eon ro baye. Ag maski may naeuoy man kana, owa man it nakatao kana it solusyon sa ginapangayo nana.

Hasta umabot ro sangka ka eaki ag nagpaeapit kana ag naghambae, "May sambilog eang nga tawo nga makabulig kimo."

"Sin-o? Sugiri ako!" ro hambae ku sangka desperadang baye.

"Ro maaeam nga tawo. Si Buddha! Makita mo ron imaw sa ibabaw ku bukid ngaron."

Owa mag-uyang it tiyempo rayang baye ag gin-agtunan si Buddha sa ibabaw it bukid, ro ginasugid nga pinakamaaeam nga tawo.

Ginsugilanon ku rayang baye ag ginsugid nana ra problema.

"Ginahigugma ko gid rang unga. Pwede baea ninyo mapabanhaw rang unga bangod kakon?"

"Pwede mabanhaw ring unga kon maobra nimo ro mga bagay ngara," ro sabat ni Buddha. "Manaog ka sa banwa ag mag-agto sa kabaeay-baeayan. Ro kada tawo sa baeay ngaron hay pangayuan mo it sangka eamigas nga bugas. Sangka eamigas sa kada baeay nga owa pa namatyan o owa pa kasaksi it kamatayan."

Sobra ro kalipay ku baye ag dali-dali imaw nga humalin.

Pagpanaog sa banwa hay dumiretso imaw sa mga pamaeay. Sa kada baeay, ginapangayuan nana't sangka eamigas it bugas. "Sangka eamigas eang sa kada pamaeay nga owa pa namatyan o nakasaksi it sangka kamatayan.

Apang uwat gusto nga magtao kana't bugas.

Bangod nga kada baeay sa lugar ngato hay nakaekspirensiya it may namatay ag nakasaksi it kamatayon sa andang baeay.

"Ro kamatayan hay parti it atong kabuhi," ro hambae ni Buddha. "Busa tun-an mo nga batunon ra. Mag-umpisa ka it oman ag umpisahan ag lipatan mo ro imo ngato nga handum nga mabuhi pa't oman ro inyong unga. Taw-an mo imaw it angay nga eubong ag magpangabuhi ka it husto ag madungganon, ag tratuhon mo ro kada adlaw nga katapusan mo eon nga adlaw sa ibabaw it kalibutan. Sa makarayang paagi, mapauswag mo ring pangabuhi.
